This was one of the first wineries to be part of the BIG5 project in 2009. I knew Juan Carlos Vizcarra through a mutual friend and from the beginning of our project it was clear to us that Vizcarra wines would be very interesting as a part of the BIG5 family.

Vizcarra already had a wonderful career and an important recognition at national level. Juan Carlos Vizcarra was following in the footsteps of his father, José Manuel Vizcarra Aguado, one of the pioneers in making vine plantations when nobody was betting on the Ribera del Duero area yet.

In 1991 Juan Carlos Vizcarra first made young wines such as Roble Senda del Oro and Crianza 15 Meses and later aged wines such as Torralvo, Celia and Inés.

The new facilities have some processes of elaboration and aging that are carried out by gravity, avoiding the use of pumps. In addition, for some years now Juan Carlos Vizcarra, owner and oenologist of the winery, has been researching and producing with micro-vinifications of grapes from old vines and with single-variety grapes from his best plots of land in Ribera del Duero.

His exhaustive care for the viticulture is making his vineyards to be considered as the “Pomerol” of Ribera del Duero. All this, together with his knowledge of oenology, has given his wines a worldwide recognition by specialized critics.

Currently, his daughters Celia and Inés are beginning to follow the path initiated by Juan Carlos Vizcarra, thus giving continuity to this family project of which BIG5 is proud.

Year after year, their wines have been awarded by guides, magazines and wine critics, always with very good ratings.
